Water jet process

What is the water jet process?

“Water jet” is a very precise method for cutting various types of materials with a jet of water under very high pressure. It has been known since the mid-20th century, but became really popular in the 1980s and remains so until now.

Using the water jet method, it is possible to cut stone, steel, non-ferrous metals, ceramics, glass, rubber, plastics and wood, thus, all the materials in case of which it is difficult to apply other methods.

Unlike laser cutting or plasma cutting, water jet does not impose any significant limitations regarding thickness of the materials subject to processing. In case of hard materials, special abrasive material is used, which supports the water jet technology, without affecting the accuracy of cutting.

An important fact about the aforementioned method is that the cut materials are not subject to the impact of high temperatures. Therefore, there is no need to worry whether the cut materials will retain their properties or be suitable for use in accordance with their intended purpose. Additionally, no thermal deformations occur.

Cost-saving and flexibility

Water jet is a flexible technology, which allows to obtain even the most accurate results. The edges do not require additional processing, as their finishing is very precise.

What is more, the method is characterized by minimum material losses, which ultimately translates into lower costs. Modern solutions applied during cutting also allow to recover water and abrasive material.

Thanks to cutting-edge IT solutions, programming of machines is both quick and easy. Therefore, it is possible to cut even the most unique shapes or create many identical products in a short period of time.

Environmental impact

It is also worth mentioning that water jet is one of the most environmentally friendly methods. First of all, no toxic fumes are generated while using the water jet technology. Second of all, the method does not require the use of grease, which is considered hazardous waste, as its disposal in the environment poses a great threat to the environment and health of people and animals.
